“You look at teams, usually percentage-wise they’ve been profitable over the years, one word I believe is frequently overlooked is duration,” Daboll said at his initial meeting with the Kansas City Chiefs. “When you can have a technique in play and you understand that your players are going to be in that technique and they know their job that gives you a dash of a jump-start.
The 36-year-old Daboll will act for the retired Bill Muir. He was offensive coordinator last year at Miami and ran the offense at Cleveland Browns the 2 years before that.
Since Scott Pioli took control of as CEO after the 2008 season, offensive coordinator in Kansas City has been 1 of the most risky positions in the NFL. Chan Gailey was discharged one or two days before the 2009 season started and replaced by Todd Haley, who spent his 1st year as a chief coach also running the offense. Sports Betting
Charlie Weis held the position the subsequent season, resigned and was replaced for 1 year by Muir.
“So we’ve got some work to do aboard installing our things and I’m looking forward to it,” Daboll announced.
Like Pioli and chief coach Romeo Crennel, Daboll’s career roots are serious in the New England method, where he was a young assistant from 2000-2005.
“I think a lot of folks say he’s another guy from the New England tree,” Crennel expounded. “But it’s been a while since he’s been in New England, and I just happen to be from that New England tree also. Sometimes knowing folks and understanding what they are about is important. In this case, that was necessary to me. Plus, I know he is a good person and especially hard worker.”
Daboll gets an offense that was annihilated by injuries last year, losing Pro Bowl running back Jamaal Charles after only 12 carries and tight end Tony Moeaki in the preseason. A hand injury postponed quarterback Matt Cassel for a lot of the 2nd half of a season that stopped with a 7-9 mark and Haley’s suspension.
Daboll guaranteed an aggressive strategy.
“The 1st word I’d like to use is ‘attack,’ ” he said.”When you’re an offensive football coach, you want to attempt to truly set case law on the defense and attack the defense.”
Daboll’s best NFL offense so far has ranked 22nd in the league. Since Crennel plans to be defensive coordinator as well as chief coach, Daboll will have more self-determination than most offensive coordinators in the NFL.
“You know what, to a degree he will be able to mainly because I am going to rely on him to handle the offensive side of the ball,” Crennel expounded. “But that being said, due to our relationship, we’re going to be well placed to sit down and say, ‘This is how we need to attack an opponent, this is what we want to do in a game plan,’ and then anticipate Brian to execute those facts.”
